Paxo starts off in his usual condescending way towards anyone without a Home Counties accent - but quickly finds out he's not dealing with another Westminster cocktail set drone. Plaid Cymru's economic adviser, Eurfyl ap Gwilym, sets the arch Celtophobe straight on a few matters, whilst Jezza faffs about like a beached whale. 2:15 is where the real fun starts.

He clearly says at 1:06 that 'No, none of the current UK finances are sustainable'. Referring to long term expenditure at the current levels. His point was that in the long term this expenditure cannot be sustained, but has to be sustained in the short term until the private sector starts hiring more people.

The interviewee had the relevant numbers regarding spending per capita above the national average for London and Wales. Which numbers did Paxman want?

Try 95 years. Wales has been in the shit since the First World War, but most of the country doesn't seem to have noticed.

Wales was annexed to the Kingdom of England in 1535 by the Laws in Wales Acts, but subsequently, legislation was penned (Sunday Closing Act, the disestablishment of the church, Welsh Language Acts etc.) and government reorganised (Welsh Office etc.) so that Wales' separateness was re-affirmed through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The Laws in Wales acts, along with the annexation, were finally repealed in 1993.

Of course, Wales has always been a separate nation but that's another story
