On January 28, 2010, North Texas mayors, university and business leaders united to announce the formation of the Texas Institute for Sustainable Technology Research. More than 100 regional university, business, and government officials were in attendance. Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck, and Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief spoke about the need to focus the region's skills on sustainable technology, job creation, and a healthier environment.

The press conference was followed by top regional leaders signing the Texas Institutes Mission Statement and agreeing to work together to make North Texas a world leader in research and commercialization of sustainable technology.
