  • This was not the first time local stations stayed on the air all night to cover a Hurricane. During Hurricane Donna in 1960, Hurricane Cleo in 1964, Hurricane Betsy in 1965 and Hurricane David in 1979, Miami stations WTVJ Ch. 4 (CBS) and WCKT Ch. 7 (NBC) stayed on all night long with Weathermen Bob Weaver and Don Franklin at WTVJ and Bill Ross and Charlie Baxter at WCKT giving storm coverage all night long. Brian Norcross during Andrew was not the first by a long shot.

  • John Hope and Hal Gerrish were both AWESOME in this clip! They were truly icons in the field of tropical meteorology! I like when Larry King asks "If this is not a five, what is a five?"... and with a slight chuckle, Hal responds..."That's a good question!" ...lol

  • nice series! been over an hour watching this great great stuff

  • @moviemagg Now it's ridiculous. Every local station AND the weather channel was covering irene for 2 full days in new york. 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, news12 long island, and 16

very interesting videos and information in the comments. just now becoming familiar with your videos and love them all as I waste time between classes for college. I'm about to look for them on your channel, but if you dont have them up, could you sometime post this same "As It Happened" for Hurricane Katrina? Thanks for the vids!

  • Was this the first time local stations stayed on the air non-stop during a storm. When I went through Francis, Jeanne, and Wilma, I was very appreciative of WPTV staying on the air and getting us through the storm, but I cannot imagine them not doing so once they were able.

  • Even then you can hear that they had a feeling it was a category 5, but recon at the time didn't report higher winds so they kept it a 4 until recent.

  • You just gotta love how at 6:03 some fucking moron left their car alarm on.
