Improved version is in video response!

Charlie (http://charlie-liu.com ) plays Bach two part Invention #14 at home. He spent a month learning this piece along with Mozart K545 Mv1 and Chopin Polonaise in G Minor (Op Pos). Check those videos out too if you're interested!

  • GOOD JOB CHARLIE !! omg i wish i could play the piano but omg that was awesome! i love bach keep up the good work

  • Thanks! Then you would enjoy Charlie's most recent video (Invention No 2)!

  • hes been 5y11m for 4 months now ><

  • ? He's way past 5y11m now, but ALL of the videos we recorded when he's 5y11m would ALWAYS be 5y11m, right?? If you want to double check, in his Solfeggietto video we posted 4 months ago, it's clearly stated he was 6 years old then.

  • Please click on the video responses for an updated better/more musical version!

  • looking and sounding good. I would just play it with little less legato ;)

  • I noticed that indeed some other people (including even Glenn Gould) played it with some staccato instead of all legato. His teacher taught the legato version, and I personally like it better. Hopefully we'll post an update of this piece and polonaise soon.

  • COME TO CANDY MOUNTAIN CHARLIE

    Lol, great playing!

  • I dunno if you're still trying to teach your son this same piece 8 months later, but whatever you're doing I'd implore you not to quite teaching your son piano.

I'm no parent, but I know that I never really like piano at a young age, but my parents made me play anyway, and I'm glad they did. I love it now.

  • hey i'm currently playing this song too. I'm fourteen. I think you could use a little more touch, like have some of the notes slurred, some staccato, some legato, to make it more interesting and more life! Also, you could use some more distinctive dynamics on the LH and RH 32nd notes, plaly around with them! Just a little constructive criticism! Overall, a very good performance. Keep up the good work! :)

  • i had to play this 3 times about 3 years apart for each...

  • amazing!!! I cant even play that well!

  • Well if he gets bored so quick he must have too much energy. Just let him run around and get all his energy out. Show him that playing music can be fun and start simple

  • I play the piano and I'm trying to teach my son who is almost 5 years old, but no way, he doesn't have the patience that needs in order to learn a piano song. After one minute he gets bored, what can I do?

    Maybe just give up!

  • more connected on the second page of the songs with all the 32nd notes

  • I'm 17 and I just finished Rachmaninoff Prelude in C# Minor and I have to do some Bach inventions. I'm on #14 now and I just wanted to see how it sounded before I learned it. Great Job Buddy!

  • dynamics???

this piece was originally written for the harpsicord, because, pianos actually didnt exist in bach's day. and on a harpsicord there are no dynamics...
