This song is the first single to be released from their album, "Before These Crowded Streets." The theme of this song was about apartheid in South Africa and the persecution of Native Americans but I chose a different path with my video because I think the lyrics are rather obscure and you can interpret it many ways.

  • It gives me goosebumps. It's an amazing tribute to the beautiful American Indians and their unjust treatment during the colonization of America and onwards.

  • @sukidesu36

Yes it is an amazing tribute! I didn't know what the song was about when I created the video, and if you don't know you can interpret the song any way. But when you know the meaning it takes you back and makes you think of how this land was taken from them. Thanks Alicia!

  • Me encanta esta canción y no soy de las que escucha este tipo de música

  • @sukidesu36 no he was south african and islam came in and the usual all death to non muslims dont drink the wather is a warning agasnt islam

  • @sukidesu36 Not trying to start an argument or anything, but you almost got it right. It's actually about the natives of South America when their land was invaded. It shows on the music video for proof. :)

  • Its about the native americans

  • This always sounded a tad eddie vedderish to me. That's not a positive or a negative, its just an observation.

  • ok, when this song first came out I loved it and i loved that Alanis Morsette did the hook, but what i didn't like is the attention it didn't get... now I know why after reading the lyrics and understanding them. WOW... just wow... This song speaks the truth about what our ancestors did to call America our home. Do I see Karma playing out right before my very eyes today????

  • great video! i love these lyrics, really gives you something to think about

  • Now as I rest my feet by this fire those hands once warmed here/ well I have retired them

I can breathe my own air I can sleep more soundly/Upon these poor souls I'll build heaven and call it home..

    'Cause you're all dead. NOW!

    ...damn

  • i'll build heaven and call it home.♥

  • Nice Vidddddd

Y0ou Should Make Many More ;D

  • Amo esta canción!! Great video dude, thanks for sharing it! Peace
