Physicists working at the Brookhaven National Lab's Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) are exploring the puzzle of proton spin as they begin taking data during the 2009 RHIC run. For the first time, RHIC is running at a record energy of 500 giga-electron volts (GeV) per collision, more than double the previous runs in which polarized proton beams collided at 200 GeV. Narrarated by RHIC run coordinator Mei Bai.

  • that's right, it is believed that they would only really be in existence for a split moment. As for the matter/anti matter the scale of particle collider experiments is so small, I'm still in school no expert but I many say quarks and anti quarks are rather frequently splitting and annihilating each other almost instantaneously. As for your last comment many of mankind's technological advancements often lead to new ways of causing destruction, but also new ways of healing, efficiency & learning

  • @Fastcheetah9 Either way the substance that is created at the RHIC, is crazy! That's what they use for weapons in Starcraft...So is that what we have to look forward to, space ships, with rails guns and RHIC death beams?

  • @Fastcheetah9 Well it was something that was discussed by a few sources of information. More recently I have read that if the RHIC or LHC in Europe were to create black holes, they would be tiny and would disintegrate as soon as they are created. They said that in the process of colliding ions , the collision could create matter heavy enough or dense enough to create a black hole. So between RHIC and the LHC, and the experiments with anti-matter, I've been fearing the worst.

  • @PeteVonHolle666

i work at RHIC, please explain why you are concerned that it will create a black hole capable causing significant harm the the planet/ people. How do you think this would happen, in physics please

  • The RHIC is going to kill us all! Please find a way to destroy black holes before experimenting with this technology!

  • Impressive!!!

  • RHIC roll

  • Exelente ! ; gracias ,desde buenos aires.
