Ibn Masud (Radiyallahu anh) said,
"Whoever would like to follow the way of someone, let him follow the way of those who have died, for those who are still living are not safe from fitan. Such were the Companions of Muhammad (sallallahu Alayhi wasallam), who were, by Allah, the best of this ummah, the most sincere, the most knowledgeable and the least pretentious. They were the people who Allah chose to accompany His Prophet and establish His religion, so we must acknowledge their virtue and follow in their footsteps, adhering as much as possible to their example of morality and religous commitment, for they followed true guidance."
