Portland YouthBuilders (PYB) is a nonprofit organization that provides educational, vocational, and leadership development programs for low-income men and women aged 17-24. Founded in Portland, Oregon in 1995, PYB is part of a network of over 200 YouthBuild programs around the country. Each year, PYB serves an average of 200 young people in the greater metropolitan area from their facility in Southeast Portland.
The Portland Development Commission is proud to work with Portland YouthBuilders. In 2001, PDC did a very unique loan with Portland Youthbuilders. Portions of the loan to improve their current home in the Lents urban renewal area were to be forgiven through work the students performed in the URA. Thus, PDC has been a partner for 8 years! Our shared goal is to help create lasting change in the lives of youth throughout the Portland area. By helping to offer workforce training for youth who were previously at risk, we are helping to promote economic development in the neighborhoods and helping to offer quality affordable housing.
