Anyone come up with a good fix for this? One that doesnt involve changing out half the guts?

Is the belt twisted the wrong way? It look like it

You can fix the rubbing by either moving up the belt tensioner or repositioning your motor on the motor mount! im surprised your having this problem...simple and easy fix...

The point of this video is to demonstrate the design flaw. There is no one who has purchased this vehicle who has not experienced this issue. Tons of forums covering the issue as I mention above. Yes, the SC18 can be fixed - after modifying it
Keep in mind I own two, and we race indoors on RCP track, thus leaving the belt tensioner out is not an issue.
Maybe I'm spoiled? My Traxxas runs hard without any problems, ever - save my poor driving.

Right on. Glad things have gone smoothly. From the response you left above you indicated that you made a "simple and easy fix" to the motor mount position so that your 18B2 didn't rub. I must have incorrectly assumed that you encountered the same belt tension and rubbing issues that I and many others have.
All the best.

rcsuperfreek,
There's no easy answer. Best advice? Visit the SC18 and the RC18B2 thread in the Mini and Micro Forum at RCtech.net. You won't find any web site with more comments and suggestions from other owners than RCtech.
1- The belts will loosen with time.
2 - loosen all the screws that hold the top plate on the drive-train at least a half turn
3 - consider modifying your belt tensioner (see RCtech.net)
Or, pull the belt tensioner and run it a lot. You'l notice things loosening up a bit.
