We have 8 guinea fowl and five chickens, all hatched from late May to mid-June. We are planning to add a Greater Swiss Mtn. Dog to our family next spring. We picked the breed because they are supposed to be good overall farm dogs. Any suggestions on how we can properly train her to guard and herd the guineas? We'd appreciate any advice you could give us. Thanks! Btw, my two girls (5 and 7)love your Christmas singing guinea video. :D

@Niere922 It should be easy, since your dog has genetic herding skills AND will start around the birds as a puppy. You don't need to train him to protect – he'll do that instinctively. Just get him to accept the birds, which is a matter of exposing them to each other while you oversee his actions. Chastise him for chasing the birds. He should catch on really fast. You picked a good breed for the situation and task at hand.

Watched all 17 videos, enjoyed them a lot and learned a lot, thank you. Will the dogs actaully protect the birds from a predator such as a coyote?

@SiliconBlake They ABSOLUTELY protect the birds from ALL predators, even the flying ones, which we have a lot of! Don't miss Season 2 - and the Short Clips are always done for humor...
