Didgeridoo and clapsticks played by Gabby Duncan and Clayton Weatherby, Gerry and the Zeros, underwater shots are real whale songs ~ pics supplied by Boris Branwhite and Debs Raymont, Ray Alley, Mark Fanell, greenpeace, and Oceania Projects ~ an Australian aboriginal cultural tradition about the migration of the humpback whales from their Antarctic Southern Ocean haven to their breeding grounds in Hervey Bay, Queensland, and the magical connection between whale and man. The indigenous people of the Mirrning Nation whose country is at the Head of the Great Australian Bight in Western Australia, have their traditional whale calling ceremony of ritual dance and prayer to the Whale Spirits for the safe journey of the whales. On the 3rd day of the Kadaitcha Man's calling the whales, they appear and the Spirit of the Whale Songman, travels with the whales on their long journey and safe return back home with their newborn.

  • @Tenshingoso I understand you are defending a historic custom. Today, most of the educated world recognizes the intelligence and beauty of whales and dolphins. In the future, even more than now, the Japanese persistence with whaling will be seen as a great black scar of dishonor upon an otherwise admirable culture. Your promotion of whale meat continues this dishonor. Educate yourself, when nobody is looking, and see how intelligent these beings are. They are not like cattle! Learn please

  • The movie is called Whale Rider. and it's about the culture of the Maori in New Zealand. She's a girl, named Paikea and her grandfather wanted a boy so he could carry on the family name and traditions, but her brother died at birth, so for a while he was unhappy until he realizes she really is the chosen one.

  • anyone know a film that reside around a small girl who is disliked by her grandfather but she can understand whale songs? at the end she her village find the bodies of beached whales on their beacvh and the girl thinks she is resbosible becuase she can talk with them, so she trys to take her life by gettin on top of one of them and urging it to to go back into the sea with her on it, she nearly drowns but shes found on the beach alive? I forget the name but its very beautiful film
