One of my favourite pieces of literature that I wanted to share with you. It's the beginning of Paul Auster's "In the Country of Last Things".

  • Sehr schön!! I wonder what country he was speaking of ? Was it America perhaps? I think I'll have to pick up a book and read..... If I can find the time.... I thought you did an excellent job in this video. You are hereby formally subscribed!! : )

  • thank you so much (for both the comment and the sub)! The country Paul Auster is talking about is a fictional country I guess...in the book it's only calles "The Country of Last Things". =)

  • That's soo great! I've read a few Paul Auster books and your video captures the mood he provides perfectly!

    Favorited :)

  • wow, thanks =) I didn't read any of his other books. Are they as strange as this one?

  • Wow, that sounds very fascinating. I really consider buying this book...

  • =) It really is a great book! I'm happy I could arouse your curiosity.

  • I enjoyed finding this this. You've captured the dream like quality of the book. Its a favourite of mine (as you can tell) that I return to now and again.

The country Its not the most unpleasant dystopian world ever envisaged. But the steady decline of the will and optimism of the eponymous/anonymous country is frightening. Bit by bit the energy of the country saps away and it becomes ever more insular. As in a dream once lost no thing and no one can be found again.

  • This is great, thanks for sharing!! It is also my favourite Auster ever!!!

  • oh my god this is really moving, I'm pretty touched, good job you rule girl ;)

  • I haven't read this particular book but many of his "New York" stories. And yes, they are also strange, he's really good with creating suspense about things that aren't actually exciting...

  • This is impressive.
