Will the atheist's wet dream ever come true? Will religion really end up being extinct. Stay tuned to find out the final answer, or at least my opinion.
fundementalism itself is not the problem. bnelief in God is not the problem. It's when authority figures became the ultimate hypocrites and push these beliefs on the public, often for their own personal gain. I live in a wealthy catholic parish; it's basically a microcosm of medeival europe.
But the belief in a personal spiritual existance and the practicing of the teachings of people like Jesus, Buddha and Muhammad do more good than bad, and will likely never be destroyed.
I've thought for a while now that the best way to eliminate religion forever would be to let it run its course. If we were to have a second dark ages, this time with video footage instead of a few medieval woodcuts to illustrate the horror, when the time comes for it to end you can bet your ass it's going to stay dead for a LONG time.

Atheism in itself is a religion. It has its message(s) and its followers.
