Burney Falls Drowning

A southern California teenager who recently moved to Adin drowned May 30, 2011, at McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park. Witnesses said Cody Austin Butterman slipped near the base of Burney Falls, tumbled twice, fell face down in the pool below the falls before submerging. Cal Fire received the emergency call at 12:58 p.m. and divers from the Shasta County sheriff's office recovered the body of the 16-year-old at 5:30 p.m. at a depth of 20 feet near the base of the falls.
