Here's a short video of my Bosch Universal mixer kneading 4 cups of flour into bread dough. I love this machine because it works so well. It handles up to 10 cups of flour effortlessly. The machine itself only weighs about 11 pounds so most anyone can easily pick it up and put it away. It does a much more thorough job kneading dough than a regular KitchenAid or Kenwood type mixer with planetary action. It's so thorough that only one kneading is necessary.

  • No I didn't forget anything. There is no plastic piece of which you speak. This is the complete machine, well minus the bowl cover I left off to film it.

  • I had a choice to make between the Bosch Universal and the Kitchen Aid a few years ago. I really like the design of the Kitchen Aid and the way that it looks but after shopping around I chose the Bosch and I have no regrets whatsoever. I bought most of the attachments that the Bosch offers and those come in handy for all sorts of things. It's a good peice of equiptment for a decent price.

  • Good choice. I like the look of the Kitchen Aids too but they don't come close to kneading dough like a Bosch

  • You can buy a 'dough blade' thing that fits under the dough hook. Completely unnecessary, but Pleasant Hill Grain will sell you one for about 10 bucks. I've been using Bosch for 30+ years, still have my original UM3 along with the newer Universal. Both the SS dough hook bowl and the regular Makrolon bowl will make excellent bread. I see no difference and use each interchangeably.

  • You've forgot to put in place the plastic centerpiece that restrains the dough somewhat from rotating completely in the same pace as the dough hook.

Michal, You will not be sorry that you bought a Bosch Universal mixer but wonder why you didn't do sooner. The Bosch is the nest best thing to a Hobart commercial mixer and the cost is 1/10 of one.

  • @uluro Thanks! I think I'm gonna get this one after reading your comments.

  • @MichalTheBreadBaker

I suppose you could use the Bosch for mixing a cake batter but I use a hand mixer for small jobs like a single cake. Reason is that I'd rather not get the Bosch out and then wash the bowl and beater; just lazy I guess. Of course if you're mixing more than one cake or multi batches of cakes or cupcakes it would be worth it.

  • @uluro Thanks for the info! I am looking for a mixer that would be able to knead 2-3kgs of bread dough at once and your comment added lots of confidence that this one will do the job. Would it also work well with smaller amounts, say if I only need a birthday cake? or would it be too messy?

  • Because the SS bowl doesn't have the center column, it DOES have a larger capacity. I make 3 or 4 loaves at a time and the Bosch kneads it all and I don't need to do it by hand. I make a Swedish bread that has a wonderful consistency but my sister tried doing it with her Kitchen Aide and it just was not up to the job.

Favorite bread around here in Oatmeal.

No chance of me making a video; i don't own a camera but maybe can get a neighbor to film it and post here. Will see what can be done.

  • @uluro Thank you so much for your response. It is nice to speak with a fellow bread baker. After asking you about the SS bowl I looked it up & I see how the blade attaches on the bottom and it doesn't have the center column. Do you think that it does a better job kneading the dough compared to the plastic bowl? Also it says the the SS bowl has a greater capacity do you notice the difference? I would love to see it in action. Do you think you could make a short video of it at work? :o)

  • @prairiepatch The stainless steel bowl cleans up easier than the plastic one. Also, the SS bowl mixing blade attaches in the bottom rather than the top with the plastic bowl. I bake bread at least once a week, sometimes twice a week; have done so for the last 5 yrs and have used the SS bowl on the Bosch exclusively for it.
