@jinilover and because kunqu was originated from kunshan, a city in jiangnan (jiang means yangtze river, nan means southern) area, it was influenced by wu-chinese pronunciation (wu-chinese is the native language of jiangnan, one of the most widely used unofficial languages in the world).

@jinilover although peiking opera was derived from kunqu several hundred yrs ago, they do have some apparent differences. kunqu is thought to be more elegant and classic since typically it is really slow (so that it has been called as "water tune"), using bamboo flute as its main instrument, and the content of it is more literary and poetic. peiking opera was sort of like pop music at that time, since kunqu was too poetic, too literary that most low-mid class people could not understand.

as layman, i can't tell the difference between beijing opera and kunqu (probably a higher pitch), but isn't it true that a good beijing opera singer may not be good as singing kunqu as well?

Thankyou for sharing, the movie is as good as the book and I like Kunqu
