Its lunar, not Moon
-
idiots, who want these cars if there is no rocket to fly to the moon
-
The Apollo 17 rover was much faster than this piece of trash.

@msarb Don't worry. Men "back" on the the moon and a "moon base" are things that are not gonna happen within our life time, for sure.
Moon is much more far and less achievable than many people managed us to think for 40 years...

@mrplease66 sad and TRUE

What a useless and supposed-to-be-expensive piece of junk.
12 wheels for what, God knows. And it doesn't seem working so well.
And what do they are planning to do with it? Send it to the moon? Yes sure, How... and...WHEN??? What a waste of money...
-
if the russians had half the money the yanks have, they'd have had a moon base for 10 years now.

Easier on the electronics for a big package that needs to last a long time.One of the rovers is stuck on Mars not acceptable for a utility vehicle that cost's a ton $ to deliver.Kay as well go in Cadilac and live in a big RV while you're there :)

don't get me wrong. I totally support the space programs (American, Russian, European, etc). But I am very surprised to see that we are trying to invent the wheel again with very bulky and complex designs that bring down the system's reliability. A permanent base on the moon with limited mobility would be more wise for a start than complex bulky rovers that can "fetch rocks" and "play dead" on voice command, when we have difficulties even on redesigning Shuttle era hardware...
Anyway... I still do not understand why did NASA choose to have inflatable wheels? It seemed that the project was to simple and needed some more complexity to their design (it wasn't challenging enough with hard wheels?);
They must have heard of KISS... (keep it simple stupid!)

Actually this is just the first in a long line of revisions that they plan to make...they also tried out two of a kind kevlar and canvas wheels. This was the first prototype of this moon rover that they hope to use in like 5 years. They wanted to try out this site and they said that it was the most like the moon they could find...they were hoping to come back futher down the line to test again
