if you're going to all that effort, you should move the mains transformer to an external case. apart from the EM radiation, the one they use gives off a 100Hz (or 120Hz) audible hum that you can hear through your speakers if you stop the turntable, but leave the needle on the disc.

hi! Can anyone help me? I have this exact turntable but the sound is awful! What would you recommend?

they are going on ebay for over 500 dollars now. I have two. I think I bought mine in 1988 for 550 or 600 .

In my opinion that is one of the best semi-automatic belt drive turntables. I started listening to my CS-5000 again ( and wonder why I ever stopped ).

Thank you! My heart skipped a beat when I found it. I almost bought it new in 1992 but the only store in Montreal who had one left wanted $800 ($200 over the $600 retail price) so I passed. 17 years later, I hit the jack pot! :D

You got that for TEN BUCKS? An absolute steal. The specs on that turntable are better than a lot of tables costing ten times as much when this was on the market. It's a great turntable. Enjoy..

Thanks. The last two went for $222 (damaged lid) and $285. Mine is near mint with only surface scratches on the lid. My best yard sale purchase of the past 15 years.

Putting a Grado on this TT sounds like a great match! I have a Grado on my Linn Axis so I know what kind of sound it can deliver. Thanks for the info!
Hi, I don't hear any 100hz or 120hz hum on my cs5000 even when the tt not moving with the needle on the vinyl. I'm using a Grado zf3 cartridge and needle. Thanks

First check that the cable going to input is alright. Then if sounf is still the same it could be the needle or cartridge. I used Grado ZF3 on my cs5000 which sounded so beautiful. Hope this help.
