ITP is creating an extensive archive of Aikido images and materials to document and preserve the extraordinary contributions of Ōsensei Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido, and his direct students.
As a graduate school of Transpersonal Psychology, with an extensive library of transpersonal texts, ITP is uniquely equipped to preserve the history of Aikido. The holistic model of education at ITP has always included Aikido, a martial arts discipline with much to teach us about ourselves and others. Aikido provides direct experience of many fundamental transpersonal principles, like centering and harmony.
The nearly 3,000-image personal photo collection of Aikido and Buddhist scholar, Professor John Stevens, will serve as the cornerstone for this project. Additionally, Robert Frager, ITP co-founder and 7th dan, personally took over two dozen original photographs of O'Sensei, as did Henry Kono during their training with O'Sensei in the 60's and 70's in Japan.
