Im not knowledgeable on swords, but can you explain what the number of layers mean and what the grade number means and all that?

you say it has no soft iron core..... im not fully educated on this... but would that mean it wouldnt obsorb shock???

@DJJimCowley ...This sword...although gone into the hands of another owner...is comprised of two high carbon steels...and it was clay tempered to provide a more flexible spine to absorb the dynamic loads realized by the cutting edge during tameshigiri or in the worse case, combat. I wouldn't own a blade with a soft iron core if my life depended on it (in my humble opinion). Your friend,

@Hazamayakiba - this blade is in the uno-kubi zukuri suhgata - or cormarants neck style , very rare to find an example as nice as this in the production sword world - very well done Haz :-)

Its a style that was popular in the nambokucho sword era - big , beefy blades of different sughata like this one - I love it.

BTW - the traditionalists among us love a no frills tsuba like this one LOL
