Members of the Michigan Veterinarian Association spay and neuter cats and dogs available for adoption at the Michigan State Fair. Here, a nine-month old female Shepherd is spayed in a surgical suite inside a tent with a window for observation. A closed-camera shows in-depth detail on two video monitors. The program, next to the Miracle of Life exhibit, is to encourage spaying and neutering. Last year 40,000 dogs and cats were turned into the Humane Society and only 12,000 were adopted. After surgery, the vet brings the organs out to the crowd watching in bleachers and answers questions.
