This is so sad. Tearing up those old hutongs are like ripping out the heart out of Beijing. Tearing up the roots of an old tree.
So sad...
All real Beijingers feel a psychological connection with those hutongs.

development in a place with such rich historical heritage is a tough choice...

most ppl grow up in bj, like me, had profound feelings on heritage buildings and hutongs, they r heart and soul of this great city, now more and more of these things r being torn down in bj, we feel sad and helpless, because we couldnt do anything about it. and the new generation of kids havnt even seen the real bj.

让世界看看中国的另一面其实没有什么不好的,中国本来就是个发展
中国家,中国的问题本身就很多,有什么好隐瞒的呢? -
How can the Chinese government be so mindless about heritage!!!!
sad to see this. 600 fxxking years! 3 times of the US history. As a Chinese I feel hurt by this.

Whatever the Beijing "developers" put up next will be dirty in a year, boring in a week, and obsolete in a decade.
