Part 1/6

This film, shot mostly covertly, shows the irony of a regime where 20 million people lived in poverty, some on the brink of starvation, while former dictator Kim II Sung built extravagant monuments to reflect his power. He fostered a grotesque personality cult, which his son and successor Kim Jong Il perpetuates. All around the capital, Pyongyang, an endless stream of propaganda glorifies the leaders. Monuments and museums pay homage to them, but they are strangely empty.

  • POOR PPL...

  • wt if i dont bow? would they shot me?

  • I think the first 50 seconds represent best the state in which North Korea is in.

  • @BronzeEleven Ah well that's to bad, but thank you for responding. I showed the first part of this clip in class to demonstrate what a personality might look like. I hope you don't mind, it was just a few people and nothing commercial or anything so I thought it would be ok. Just thought it would be polite to let you know. And I completely agree with you, I'm a convinced atheist.

  • @evildeathmonkey1

I do not I'm afraid. Does anyone? But let me just say, to add really quick. I find the myth of a man, who verily exists, now, in real time, bowling a perfect game every time he plays, FAR more plausible and thus believable, than a man walking on water and resurrecting from the dead.

  • cults and propaganda are creepy as hell. Makes me grateful that I can go into the library and read anything. i love obama but it is by choice. i can't imagine being forced to have a picture of your leader on your wall and thank him for every aspect of your life. These people are robbed of their lives physically, but also mentally. Art and innovation can never prosper in this kind of environment.

  • @DiamondbackKI23

The common people in north korea don't know the world outside their country, and the only info they get is propaganda from their government, who teaches them that everything outside their country is evil, so the entire population is brainwashed by that sick kim dude. I'm sure that all north koreans don't hate us, but they just can't say that, because they might end up in prison camps. i think that some special forces should blow up the leaders and free the people of nk.

  • @BronzeEleven Do you perhaps know the complete myth about Kim il sungs death? The part about the cranes comming to fetch him. But how does that continue? I've searched the internet for it, but I can't any other sources that mention this story... I'm doing a paper on propaganda and personallity cults. And this seems like the perfect example.

  • this place looks like a video game with those huge fists
