Very true. Neither I don't hear the left hand's melody and I don't consider myself deaf.

With lots of Etudes, they really develop the right hand's technique, but the left hand is what shapes this as a piece in its own right. Without the delicate but present balance of the right hand slightly less projected than the left hand, it seems to loose a little bit of the line for me. Having said that however, technically brilliant!

I like the final chords, a fine ending

Left hand never comes out. Looks and sounds like Kempf was too busy making sure he played all the notes on the right hand to care for the true melody. A disappointment.

Crazy comments. Left hand is melody and short accents not cantabile at all. right hand must be clear and smooth as Czerny but not leggierissimo. those who know say nothing so true at youtube. Most young pianists will play this etude. In many of the etudes melody is given to bass while right hand has a problem to figure out. Kempf 's solutions r so musical so right for Chopin style !

I notice Chopin uses this technique in a lot of his pieces, such as black keys.

Really good performance of this difficult etude. Thank you for your upload!

@heyyy19 Oh,no doubts -Horowitz is one the best, especially, early recording...There is a nice record of Backhaus, from the whole set,and I think, also,Bleschac (not sure how does it spell)ones, from the competition...

Kempf is one of Russia's favorite pianists for over a decade now.. (And he's married to a Russian woman :-)I've met him at several concerts in Moscow. The Russian audience is blown away each time. One time, he had to come out 4 times to play encore!
