I feel that most of us could benefit from including more greens into our diet. Making green smoothies is an easy, quick & delicious way to do this! :) If you've never made green smoothies before & think that adding something like baby spinach to your smoothie would be gross/ weird, I gotta tell ya, as long as you have enough fruit, you won't really notice the greens!
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my salads, but like to mix things up to keep my diet interesting. Green smoothies are one of my favourite things to make that give me that variety, and super-charged health in the process. I also like how there are really no rules with the smoothie. If you want to try my recipes, don't think you have to follow them to a T. If you don't want to add in all the ingredients I recommend, that's cool! And if you want to add in other ingredients I don't mention, that's cool too! certainly don't list all the amazing ingredients one can add into a smoothie. Use your creativity & have fun with the green smoothie!
***A quick note about the pH balance*** The body has an acid-alkaline (or acid-base) ratio called the pH which is a balance between positively charges ions (acid-forming) and negatively charged ions (alkaline-forming.) The body continually strives to balance pH. When this balance is compromised many problems can occur. Most people who suffer from unbalanced pH are acidic. This condition forces the body to borrow minerals, including calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium from vital organs and bones to buffer (neutralize) the acid and safely remove it from the body. Because of this strain, the body can suffer severe and prolonged damage. Having a body that is too acidic (as most people do) can contribute hugely to health issues such as: Cardiovascular damage, weight gain, obesity, diabetes, bladder and kidney conditions, immune deficiency, acceleration of free radical damage-possibly contributing to cancerous mutations, hormone concerns, premature aging, osteoporosis, joint pain, aching muscles and lactic acid buildup, low energy and chronic fatigue, slow digestion, yeast/fungal overgrowth, etc. FORTUNATELY you *can* balance your pH and prevent/ reverse health issues by alkalizing your body! Consuming green smoothies is a great place to start, as well as consuming a huge salad everyday with lots of dark leafy greens and consuming more alkaline fruits...especially lemons! Lemons are super alkalizing in the body. Simply juice some lemons, add water & a pinch of stevia to make a delicious, alkalizing raw lemonade! See this article for starters to learn what foods are alkaline forming and what are ones are acidic- http://www.rense.com/1.mpicons/acidalka.htm
Raw Almond Milk Recipe- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAr2TpkkXPo
My "Creamsicle" Smoothie- YUMMM!!!
2 cups frozen mango
1 orange peeled
Juice of 1 to 2 limes
Hemp seed & ground flax seed (1 tsp each)
A few handfuls of baby spinach and/ or some other type of dark leafy green.
Add in some honey (raw & organic if possible) or another natural sweetener of choice like yacon root powder, stevia, etc. I personally prefer stevia.
1.5 cups almond milk (approx). The almond milk makes it sooo creamy! If you're into raw dairy, add some raw dairy instead of almond milk.. or coconut milk
1 tsp to tbsp of powered chlorella, spirulina, E3Live or some other kind of blue green algae or super green powder
(This smoothie makes a couple servings, so you could always half the recipe if you just want one serving.)
The Leija & Felipe Smoothie (we make this a lot because it's suuuper healthy & alkalizing)

Pinch of stevia
(This recipe serves 2 big glasses- Half it if you want less)
Choco Banana
1 frozen banana
2 tbsp raw cacao (add more of less depending on preference)
Tsp chlorella powder
Stevia
Hemp & ground flax seed (approx. 1 tsp each)
Pinch of dulse (optional but recommended)
A few big handfuls baby spinach
1 cup water, almond milk or... you could add water & a tsp of some raw nut butter like macadamia nut butter! Mmm! If you like cinnamon, add some cinnamon. If you want a smoothie that takes like black forest cake, instead of banana, add a cup of frozen or fresh cherries
Hi Leija! I have been inspired to go raw, and I am proud of myself that I got enough balls to do it. All my life I have been conditioned to eat meat. In one of your comments you've mentioned raw soaked buckwheat as an option...I used to eat buckwheat when I was younger (but cooked lol) I never knew that you could just soak em and that it! What an awesome thing to find out! Thank you for sharing your riches with all of us.

@12blin You're welcome! Yeah, I love soaked buckwheat! I usually soak it over night, rinse it off really well in the morning, then add some almond milk, cinnamon, sprinkle of ground flax or hemp seed, apple chunks, blueberries or really any kind of fruit I feel like having, with some raw honey and a pinch of Celtic Sea Salt! Yummeroo! :D
