Coach Lu lead the Chinese women team steadily into the world's top class gymnastics contenders, and helped change the fixed tendency of world's women artistic gymnastics.

Lu: I hope that at the next cycle the Chinese women team would retain it's advantage. I believe that with each step we take towards our goal, we will still shine at the next cycle.

Lu: Deng Linlin surprised everyone when she made it as the 6th Olympic team member. When she made it in all 3 events in the 633 format, Linlin again surprised everybody.

But I think, with the elaborate strategic planning of our team of coaches, also contributed to this beautiful victory.

From Athens to Beijing, in this period of 4 years; from the earliest goal setting to the development and nurturing of the team; to the last crucial moment of making the key decision of who fights on.

right moves. We had achieved the goal of producing a top gun team leader; we had achieved the goal of prolonging the senior gymnasts' top form; we had achieved producing a group of talented juniors for the 2008 Olympics; but will you have problems right at the crucial moment of competition? You might lose everything if things go wrong.

Deng Linlin performed flawlessly in all 3 events that were crucial to the winning of the Chinese team championship and became the key individual of success.

Lu: Since this was the strategy, I had to take the risks and hurt. Since we wanted team championship in the 2008 Olympics, I had to let go of some gymnasts in 2007 and nurture certain juniors; to let them mature in major meets.

August 2008 Beijing, we saw the maturing juniors. But Deng Linlin's appearance was most surprising of the others'. Hers was an unknown face.

Lu: The last few days prior to the final decision on the list, I just couldn't sleep. I was contemplating if we had made the

2007 Stuttgart World Championships, was the most important chance to drill Lu's troops before the 2008 Olympics arrived. Coach Lu boldly sent junior gymnasts, Xiao Sha, Li Shanshan, Yang Yilin and Jiang Yuyuan.

Lu: How did we want to take it(the team championship)in 2007? You wanted to retain the world champion title; you'd have some juniors to mature with the team. But that decision was painful to me.

her skills lead others(teammates)as well. Consequently, we decided that we should schedule our goal of achieving the women team champion title to be this Olympics, that was our top priority.

To achieve the goal, Coach Lu worked hard to prolong the top form of senior team members, so that the high standards of these core team members could make it to 2008, and also to cultivate the next generation nationwide.

And that top gun was Cheng Fei.

At 2005 Melbourne World Championships, Fei became the 1st Chinese World Champion in vaulting; rocking the world of gymnastics with her astounding "Cheng Fei Vault".

At the same time, she was outstanding in her FX performance; it so happened that vaulting and FX had been the weaknesses of the Chinese women team for a long time.

Thus, Fei was the additional confidence for Coach Lu's breakthrough for his women team.

Lu: Her breakthrough was not only for herself,

Internationale of Gymnastics, and others in the circle. They said, "No, you're not there yet."

After 2004 Athens, Lu had plans prepared for the Beijing Olympics; to seek breakthrough by scouting for a team leader for his women team.

Lu: Any team needs a top gun. She's got to have her own high standards, a World Champion in her own right; who could improve the opinions of other countries of China; who has high authority, in terms of techniques, in the judges' circle.
