@DiamondPilotDan its 354Kts TAS

i was alwyas confused with true airspeed and indicated airspeed, all i know is that you can go alot faster with true airspeed, the highest speed i could go on the IAS was 340 knots but on true airspeed was like 515 knots

@Delta1039 Well your indicated airspeed is calculated by the RAM air going into the pitot tube, however due to the air density and temparature differences at altitude this speed that is "indicated" on your instruments is not actually your speed through the air because there are a lot less particles of air at high altitude.
Your true air speed is the speed you are actually passing through the air and = your groundspeed on a day with no wind. A little simplified but i hope it helps.

@Delta1039 What your seeing in the video is our maximum IAS at FL340 is around 215kts 5 shown by the red and white stripe on the ASI or "the barbers pole") but our maximum TAS is 340kts (Airframe design limit or M0.64). so we need to fly 340kts through the air for the particles of air to enter the Pitot tube and display 215kts IAS because the air has a lower density.

whats the ground speed?
elperroon 1 year ago
@elperroon I'm not sure of the exact groundspeed on this occasion but the TAS at FL340 will be about 340Kts and there is a 2kt headwind so our groundspeed will be about 340kts also.
Hope this helps
