A few select quotes and good lines from Christopher Hitchens' book, "Why Orwell Matters".

  • art always predicts where society is going, which doesn't bode well for us...

  • It's a shame, too. He is so intelligent.

  • 8:56-9:02

That quote.. you're dead right Cropper..

It's tragic, but not surprising, I mean.. Hitchens isn't even referring to the subject-object distinction. In that quote he is siding on the subjective theory of knowledge.

It is right there that Hitchens, in the realm of epistemology, is not much different from the subjectivists and their antagonism to objectivity. Hitchens is solemnly backing subjectivity under the pretense of defending objectivity. What a way to undermine objectivity.

  • Excellent points. I have been struggling with the issues you addressed (the needless skepticism/uncertainty); it is so irksome!

  • A sigh worth a thousand words at the beginning of chapter X.
