A Tribute to my grandparents, Maggie and Bud Harp
Margaret Scott Chestnut-Harp and Wilburn Bryant "Bud" Harp lived in Socrum, Florida, a small rural hamlet north of Lakeland. "Maggie" was a school principal at the Winston School in Kathleen, and "Bud" was an orange grower and farmer. They had two children, Dayton and Patsy Harp (my mother). On the morning of December 23rd, 1951, Maggie died as a result of serious injuries she sustained in an automobile accident as she was on her way to teach school. One year later, on December 23rd, 1952, "Bud" took his own life, unable to live with his broken heart and enormous loss. These photographs represent the memories they left behind and are presented in tribute and honor of the lives they shared. They are buried beside one another in the Socrum Cemetery.
