l Fuego Early Music Ensemble performs at the Beacon Hill Friend's House as part of one of Fringe concerts during the Boston Early Music Festival on Monday June 13th, 2011.
Performers:
James Dargan, baritone; Teri Kowiak, voice; Dan Meyers, percussion; Camila Parias, soprano; Zoe Weiss, baroque cello. Salome Sandoval, voice, baroque guitar and artistic direction.

El Fuego (meaning fire in Spanish) has impressed audiences with their synthesis of early music and folk styles; their versatility as singers and multi-instrumentalists is shown in their unique repertoire from Spain and the New World colonies. Artistic Director Salome Sandoval has received wide acclaim for singing while providing her own continuo parts on lutes and guitars; together with Teri Kowiak (voice) and Dan Meyers (woodwinds and percussion), they create an unusually rich sound, full of melodic and rhythmic excitement in their performance of Villancicos and Xacaras, keeping the flame of little-known musical masters burning in the 21st century.

A la xacara xacarilla: I bring my rhythmic song with style and flair as if a platter of the best, for the enjoyment of my fellow villains. A song so new and fun, that will make this Christmas a thousand times happier. Let's sing it then, so the Most High blushes; let's dance it now with exceeding love.
1-.For now and always, on this night all that's wrong is held at bay; and to set right others' wrongs a child of grace is born to us. If my voice could reach this king, Oh! How well I'd sing a song like no song ever sung before in praise of this wondrous child!
2-.With permission of the most beautiful, here's a song whose tale is true; like burning rays its message hits you. May the bravest listen at last a song about how everybody danced of joy when He was born on earth.
3-.Reflected in Maria's eyes a brilliant sun begins to rise, sending fire throughout her heavens to reveal a dawn beyond all dawns with the beauty of the ages in her but few years of age, for this sun that so adorns her is the Godhead Sun himself.
