Kin Kin is a small town that is renowned for its great food, art and scenery. Located in the rolling green hills of the Noosa hinterland, 'Kin Kin' is the Aboriginal name for a species of small black ant that is common in the area.

The town was founded in the late 1800s on the back of the booming timber industry, which sought the eucalypts and cedars found in surrounding forests. The quality of Kin Kin timber was famous throughout Australia. Later, dairy farming flourished in the area.

Today it is a retreat for artists, foodies, and local farmers and is home to one of Australia's premier health retreats as well as a residential massage school.

Things to do

Located in the nearby Kin Kin rolling hills is a herbal tea plantation that produces tea under its own label, be sure to try some Kin Kin Tea.

The Country Life Hotel is an historic pub that has recently emerged refreshed from a refurbishment and facelift. Order a hearty meal in the dining room, take your place at a stool in the expansive airy bar, or find a table under a broad umbrella in the large beer garden and catch a band in the open air.

Just around the corner from the pub, keep a look out for artist-run sculpture gardens where recycled materials stand sentry.

If you're looking to make a positive health change, combined with some pampering and relaxation, Living Valley Springs Health Retreat may be the perfect remedy.

Noosa Trail Network, a series of tracks and trails over mixed terrain for walkers, and horse and mountain bike riders, starts in Kin Kin.
