Engine 92, Truck 45, Squad 5, 5-1-2, Battalion 21 and 2-2-6 responded to a construction crew that hit a medium diameter gas line causing a gas leak and prompting a Level 1 Hazardous Materials response in Chicago's Mt. Greenwood neighborhood, 111th and Spaulding. Crews were on scene standing by with 2 2.5" lines stretched as a precaution, and monitoring the air for approximately 3 hours while the gas company and water company worked in tandem to mitigate the situation. The first video footage shows the dirt blowing out of the whole by the gas and you can hear the force behind it.

  • Remember the Feb. '02 gas line rupture near 107th? I was one of the 5,000 houses cut off for 3 or 4 days... big-time fun. My house was briefly shown on the news... I felt famous for half a second.
