We wanted oil for our cars, our trucks and all of our other machines. So men and women went out into places and depths of the sea that much of the rest of us cannot go. In the process of the acquisition of the black gold an undesirable event occurred. Eleven human beings lost their lives and the ecology was temporarily placed out of balance. These heroes of modern society have yet to be seen by the larger view of the world as heroes but to their spirits and their families I would like to make it clear that I see you as champions and I ask that the rest of us consider an extension of similar thoughts of respect. To the eleven and their loved ones I say, " ... thank you for your contribution." Even amongst those who often claim to support peaceful endeavors there was no hesitation before the pointing of fingers, shouting, and projections of hatred - at those who went to secure the stuff for our machines - began. What has the finger pointing and extensions of hatred done to solve, cure, or change the situation ... largely, nothing. In fact it has perhaps made things worse. If the words, "Yeah but..." entered any mind as the ineffectiveness of action-less complaining was addressed as worthless, perhaps such a mind could consider letting go of this phrase prefix that is almost always a guarantee of a lack of positive action. Instead, let us look at solutions. What if each of us asked of ourselves, "what do I do best?" Then from the answers that return to us - on that empowering question - we could begin to make contributions towards the greater good. ///
