So far, the financial crisis has barely affected manufacturers of luxury timber-framed homes. Orders to Huf Haus have not dropped off ... on the contrary, more and more people nervous about their bank deposits are choosing to invest in their own home.

And the climate debate benefits timber frame builders, because they can easily adapt to the new energy efficiency regulations. In the home-owning sector, their market share is currently 15 percent and rising. Luxury timber frame house builders Huf Haus, based in the Westerwald, are an example of how the industry and its customers are coping with the financial crisis. Holger Trzeczak watched a house being constructed.

  • never knew pre-fabricated houses looked so good!

  • @abalcu Most people sleep in square wooden beds, unless you sleep in a race-car shaped bed

  • There's a little fragrance of Mies van der Rohe in these designs. Their so perfect, with such clean, and elegant lines that it makes you think of who your lifestyle should be in order to live in these houses. I mean ... comme on, perfectly square, wooden beds???

  • I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome! :)

They should try out in South America :D lol

  • In 1990 timber frame buildings accounted for only 8% of new housing in the UK. By 2008 that figure had risen to 25%.....the number is still rising due to the growing concern about green issues...timber is regarded as a sustainable resourse

  • amen! except for their view on guns, but besides that, gremany is perfect.

  • I like the process and ethic but the houses are not so nice. the layout may be good but its hard lines of the expressed structure (especially when in black) especially because there are so many elements visible, it kind of looks japanese but its too messy visually to achieve the same quality. but that is a personal opinion, of course.

i guess they use swedish spruce because it would grow more slowly in the colder climate (therefore more dense and smaller knots etc)?

  • come to canada please!!!!!!

we need competent designers, construction workers etc.
