@ohmsasucam true but they don't generally speak an Asian or Middle Eastern language. Usually it is in a dialect related to their own country but different because of regions or live in Europe and were transplanted there and the population is over 80% Caucasian. :)

Right on, Kennethhew; I totally agree with that. For me, though, race has a little to do with it. Being a black woman and being raised in the worst of neighborhoods, you can't help but be awed and inspired to see someone of your race/culture speak a language you would never even think would come out or that we think could be interesting is a cool thing! Especially Asian or Middle Eastern languages. and from a American view, sadly many could care less about learning something else new

@ilidionbeurkley I def agree. I have a BA in Spanish and I'm African-American. I was self-taught at the age of 11 and decided to get my degree in the field. People are amazed to see that I would major in Spanish and warmly embrace me.

It's perfectly normal to be pleasantly surprised by someone speaking a language that is not their mother tongue. Race has nothin to do with it, it's just learning ANY language is hard, especially chinese cause it's a tonal language, if you say the same word in a different tone it means something else, so you have to really memorize all 5000+ words with their correct intonation. Any non-chinese speaking person who's able to learn and speak the chinese language perfectly should be admired

majority of the black people on this planet speak more than 1 language..hello Africa, most people speak 2-3 languages minimum :)
