In a pregame ceremony, a statue of Phillies Hall of Fame broadcaster Harry Kalas is unveiled at Citizens Bank Park. Jimmy Rollins and Hall of Famer Steve Carlton unveiled the statue for the first time. The Kalas family got a first peek Sunday and thanked the many Phillies fans who funded the lifelong tribute to Harry.

  • class act..made baseball fun during the lean years

  • @AshburnStadium (Part 2) For inspiration Harry did turn To his best friend, Rich Ashburn A greater friendship, no one can earn From those two, there is a lot to learn Feelings among the fans ran high On that warm afternoon in July Even tho' Harry is an emotional guy Kalas kept it up, because in baseball, you don't cry Baseball is a wonderful game To Cooperstown, many a fan came Even though "Whitey" couldn't be there, what a shame Harry Kalas is where he belongs, in the Hall of Fame
  • I also want to share my original poem, "Harry In The Hall", which Harry loved.

It was a nice, beautiful day

Even tho' the skies above were gray

As we gathered on the field of play

To honor our friend, "Harry the K"

    Harry responded in kind

With his loyal fans in mind

A better announcer you can't find

To deal with the summer-long grind

    (continued)

  • An absolutely beautiful tribute to a wonderful man. Lawrence Nowlan captured Harry Kalas perfectly. I miss HK terribly. As Harry probably would have done had he been able to attend in person, I teared up when I first saw the ceremony.

  • High hopes.... Harry Kalas, we love you. We'll carry those high hopes for our Phil!-3

  • first to see it
