Kathleen Hermesdorf of Motion Lab's class. Student recital, Rhythm & Motion, May 2002.

Partly scored, partly choreographed, and tons of fun. We were very lucky that Kathleen Hermesdorf taught a beginning class. The technique is based on fully releasing weight into the floor (really exploring nuances of gravity rather than constantly resisting it). Falling is a hell of a lot of fun and I like how athletically demanding it is (I could barely keep up). I also like how much Kathleen's choreography makes use of momentum.

  • Impressive work. Really good!

  • Thanks very much!

  • this is a beginner's class?? NO WAY! you guys are really good. and i loovvee the music accompaniment as well. i'm just wondering, is this a graduating piece from a dance school, or product of a workshop or smth put up from leisure evening classes?

  • Thanks so much. This was an evening class for adults at a community dance center. Many of us (including me) were beginners. However, there were also many people who were really advanced. Our instructor, who is a professional choreographer and touring performer, did a great job of conducting a class for such a mix.

    Thanks for your comment!

  • This is amazing - and this is from a beginning workshop? I don't believe it!

It's nice to see the old R&M building - I miss it all the time. ODC just doesn't have the same charm.

  • Thank you. Yeah, I miss R&M, too. It actually burned down last December, which is sad. I agree that the older buildings have more charm. Plus, they're more difficult to replace. Can't build an old building. :-)

  • Thanks, I really like Kathleen Hermesdorf's work. She uses so much momentum and there are so many changes in direction and use of redirection of force. Check out motion-lab. net !

  • Thanks so much! :-)

  • This was nice. I really enjoyed this work.
