I thought it would be good for me to share with everyone here how I pack and smoke my pipes (tobacco pipes). There are many different methods on how to 'properly' pack and smoke a pipe to make sure it burns fully and evenly. I've found this technique to be pretty good at both of those. At the end of the day, you want a bowl of evenly and well packed tobacco and a smoking speed that keeps the tobacco burning but without becoming too hot. Let me know if you have any thoughts or any different or better methods below in the comments!

  • I knew Heath ledger didn't really die haha just messin man but I just picked up a corncob pipe and a bag of "good stuff" tobacco, which is really a tobacco not Mary Jane

  • @gtownsurfcody LOL Never heard of that brand myself... You sure you're not hinting at something else? ;-)

  • Hello from the UK! you seem like a legend. Really enjoyed your video. Been smoking a pipe for 3 years now...but this is probs the first time I got it right! lol! you said in your video that the first tobacco you showed should be packed slightly differently... care to share? :-) x

  • @ilewyou Thank you very much--I'm happy it helped! That first blend I showed (Cornell & Diehl) had much thicker ribbons of tobacco than the drugstore blends (which are cut much finer). You'd pretty much pack it the same way, but you would want to tear up larger chunks, and while you're packing be sure that it is even. With larger pieces, it is easier to have air cavities, or over pack and make the entire mass airtight. It takes a little more work, but they really are delicious. Hope that helps!

  • thanx .. and its honor to watch your tubes ;) keep on

please tell me ... which tobacco ( very light )can me start to smoke pipe ?

coz i afraid from cancer and bad effect on health -- so tell me which light tobacco can me buy ?

  • @dipls Well, any tobacco can cause cancer (pipes can cause mouth or gum cancer), so there's always a risk. The best to start that are light are the basic blends you can get from drug stores and the bulk bins at local tobacconists. You could also start with premium aromatics from any of the major brands (McClelland, MacBaren, Cornell & Diehl, etc.) Typically, aromatics are lighter and easier to start with then full English or specialty blends.

  • Was having trouble sustaining the light for very long, the tamper tool advice helped a lot!

  • What you want to do is "puff" it. You're using your tongue and cheeks to make a suction to draw in the smoke from the pipe without actually opening up the way to your lungs. If you can manage to blow out smoke, and you didn't cough in the process, you've done it right.

  • You have a funky Heath Ledger look—slash—Matthew Broderick personality thing going on there.

  • How do you not inhale 0.0

  • What's your advice on how to break in/season a new pipe? Cheers

  • Are pipes addicting since you don't inhale? I occasionally smoke cigars and I am not addicted, is it the same with pipes, or is pipe smoking addictive?
