Writer Rudyard Kipling (David Haig) recites the poem he wrote for his son Jack (Daniel Radcliffe) after he was killed in war.

"Have you news of my boy Jack?
Not this tide.
When dyou think that hell come back?
Not with this wind blowing, and this tide.

Has any one else had word of him?
Not this tide.
For what is sunk will hardly swim,
Not with this wind blowing, and this tide.

Oh, dear, what comfort can I find?
None this tide,
Nor any tide,
Except he did not shame his kind —
Not even with that wind blowing, and that tide.

Then hold your head up all the more,
This tide,
And every tide;
Because he was the son you bore,
And gave to that wind blowing and that tide!"

From dancing around with a chicken on his head in The Thin Blue Line to playing the poet Rudyard Kipling....he really is a good actor.

  • I've never seen this movie, but even without much context, this is...so...sad...

  • @fliminajig

  • superb acting! super film!

  • Brilliance nearly made me cry. I feel his emotion. I can see it in his eyes. And that poem will never leave me....I even made a poem myself for John Kipling :) Heriosm. Pure excellence.

  • This is an amazing piece. David Haig gave a stunning portrayal of Kipling in this made-for-TV film. Just... spectacular. Deeply inspirational.
