Amelia Island video: beautiful painted buntings, North America's most colorful song bird, are visiting this northeast Florida barrier island September 2011. Shown at backyard bird feeder in Fernandina Beach 9/19/11, these colorful wild birds have been spotted here daily since early September. Even if you're not a birder, you must admit they are eye-catching! The multi-colored male is the singer, the green is probably an adult female (but as juveniles they are all green). This is a second year male not quite done molting into his brilliant plumage. Tourists can try to catch a glimpse at public parks on the island -- Fort Clinch State Park & Egans Greenway. Bring your binoculars and some patience! They'll probably be around into October. Amelia Island is a great place for bird watching!
