  • hi PJ, real nice side here but i vaguely recall a connection to the "opals". is it possible you may be able to expound on this? thank you for the memories and the fun. tom d brick,nj.

  • Good call. They're the same group. The record was originally issued as by The Crystals and then as by The Opals

  • Yo Pj.. why in my book does it say Luna 5001

And another record Luna 100, both released in 1954, what make's it different?

  • They were pressing variations. There were two pressings on Luna 101. I think the very first pressing on Luna 101 says something about Melo-tone or Master-tone studios on it. The 5001 copy, although quite rare, is a 3rd pressing.

  • What a beautiful ballad - I love the subtle "scratches," it makes it sound richer.

  • I agree. Surface noise can actually be nice if it's not over bearing. This one's a little too noisy for me in the beginning but it gets much better as it gets going

  • The term "doowop" was unheard of in the 50's. It was called harmonizing then and later corrupted and denigrated by the powers that be to "doowop." This song and many others like it, was "sung" on many street corners and empty schoolyards back in the day for amusement and getting the attention of the pretty girls. It was "played" indoors for romance.

  • Before "they" corrupted harmonizing to doo-wop was the time these unforgotten ballads were recored. Thanks for the memories!

  • Thanks PJ

  • @PJDooWop PJ, thank you for helping me with my memory,he he he.i',ve only been a subscriber to YT for 6 or 7 months now and i must compliment you on your seemingly encyclopedic grasp of this genre, and of course your obvious stellar collection.i know that you have much to offer and i have much to learn,[a great marriage]. i guess the highest compliment i can pay to you is to continue to follow your channel and comment on the incredible contribution[s] you so unselfishly share here, tom d brick,nj.
