After I encountered serious RFI problems with a Samsung plasma TV in 2005 (video also available on Youtube), more recently I detected a similar problem with Panasonic Viera plasma TV's.
In this video I use a Yaesu FT-817ND as receiver in AM mode, with a very insensitive telescopic antenna. The video starts with the tv switched off, and the receiver on 50 MHz. When the tv is switched on, you can clearly hear the interference come up. I then switch down in frequency: 28-24-21-18-14-10-7-3.5 and 1.8 MHz. Waw, this tv really radiates unwanted signals! When I switch channels on the tv, you can hear the RFI disappear in between channels, to come up again when the next channel pops up. At the lower frequency of 3.5-1.8 MHz, I change the frequency a bit on the receiver to find the RFI. Apparently with the insensitive antenna, only the stongest RFI signals are picked up. But mind you, with resonant outdoor antennas, you can hear the interference all over the radio spectrum.
Bad engineering, Panasonic!
In another Youtube movie, I will let you hear an RFI-free Samsung LED tv. Good engineering is possible!
Thanks for that, ON4WW i have 5 of these within 500 meter radius, consequently Amateur Radio
is finished here in this location, depending who has their set on, the ANC-4 works well but not all
the time. I do feel like making a spark transmitter, which i may yet do. Our Australian and Comminutions Media Authority is a toothless tiger, they can not do anything about EMI at all.
I am in a small town in North East Australia. Thank you for this Video, all the Best, cheers.
