@DarkArtistKaiser It seems more fascist than communist. So I guess it's run by the Tea Party.

@SullyMediaProduction Um, Robert Heinlein, you know, the author of the ST universe. In fact there were 3-4 world wars in it. It was a fun sequence, but it was still stupid. Verhoeven wanted it to be stupid, the movie's a stealth satire of fascism, it wouldn't be good if the space nazis started being reasonable and winning.

ZURG RUSH
I think starship troopers is one of the closest depictions of what we will be like in the future.
Militaristic, fascist/communist civilization hellbent on war on anything and anyone and its own people are little more than conscripts and fodder.

@Big5000K The book had Klendathu being a screwup with infantry in powered armor. Verhoeven hated the book, which is why we have idiotic scenes like this whole sequence. Apparently in the future, we bloody forgot everything we've learned about warfare since WW1, and we decided the whole nightvision gear, grenade launchers and crap you could find on soldiers in 2003 was too futuristic for whenever the hell this movie's set in.
