Obama is in dire straits. CNN's opinion research poll, released Sunday night, shows Obama and McCain in a dead heat. This is after Obama announced his VP. By all accounts a generic democratic contender should be way ahead at this juncture. Of course there is the DNC itself, which should bump Obama in the short term, but its unlikely that most Americans will pull a lever in November on the basis of the collection of self-serving political platitudes engineered by DNC speechwriters for network TV.
