Many people have misinterpreted Alan Greenspan's comments in his book about the war in Iraq being about oil. Here he gets frank with Tim Russert on Meet the Press. Originally aired September 27th, 2007.

For more information about his thoughts on this, please see the following article:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/09/16/AR20070916012...

From this article:
'Greenspan, who was the country's top voice on monetary policy at the time Bush decided to go to war in Iraq, has refrained from extensive public comment on it until now, but he made the striking comment in a new memoir out today that "the Iraq War is largely about oil." In the interview, he clarified that sentence in his 531-page book, saying that while securing global oil supplies was "not the administration's motive," he had presented the White House with the case for why removing Hussein was important for the global economy.

'"I was not saying that that's the administration's motive," Greenspan said in an interview Saturday, "I'm just saying that if somebody asked me, 'Are we fortunate in taking out Saddam?' I would say it was essential."'

He said that in his discussions with President Bush and Vice President Cheney, "I have never heard them basically say, 'We've got to protect the oil supplies of the world,' but that would have been my motive."

  • Hey, all un-stupid, un-obese and un-ignorant Americans:

What is the total cost and profit of the war in Iraq?

  • He said He...as if he was the President.....maybe he is the one running the whole show?

  • how about Alan Greenspan is a fraud

  • Yeah Greenspan and IF he had come from the planet Krypton and IF he could get hold of a telephone box, then invent a magic time machine, and IF he could then build super cosmic ray guns and IF he could then convince all of China to arm with said ray guns. And IF he could then then go to the shop where harry potter bought his wand and buy a very special one. And IF he could then learn the correct magic and transport the Chinese they could then go back in time and stop America from being formed!

  • Why don't cars run on solar power yet? That is the question we should be asking. If they did we wouldn't have a need for troops in the middle east, one of the main motivating factors of muslim terror groups.

  • Its refreshing to hear a statesman take such an objective approach to the Iraq War. To discuss the Iraq War in any context other than securing oil is naive.

  • Well yeah, it is more of an excuse to take over the oil

  • Ummm he never implies that in the video, idiot

  • Basically Greenspan is saying he needs to murder women and children so he can get cheap petrol at the gas station.

  • Yep its all about oil, Sadam could always sell it to the Chinese. Its about control of reserves 4% backs a lot of difference when the juice runs out.

Its very little to do with Israel except in the minds of anti Semites and neo-Nazis....
