A spoken word performance of "War Without End" by Rick Hutchins; with accompaniment by some large friends.
WAR WITHOUT END
(c) 2008 Rick Hutchins
Traveling a fortnight,
neath fathoms dark and blue,
two monstrous Leviathans
sought a fateful rendezvous.
Facing one another,
suspended in the briny deep,
they prepared themselves for battle,
each with a faith to keep.
Wise and ancient were these whales,
scarred and barnacled of hide;
colossal in their gravitas,
colossal in their pride.
And when they spoke, their voices
were so very deep and strong,
the oceans boomed with echoes
and the Earth rang like a gong.
Throughout the seas, cetaceans
held their breath and waited;
since time out of mind
had this conflict been debated.
And never with such eloquence
had the rhetoric unfurled:
Does the world dream of the mind?
Or does the mind dream of the world?
But the outcome of this contest
was merely the past repeated.
Neither was ascendant.
Neither was defeated.
Controversy unresolved,
both giants failed to score;
so they sank back into blackness
to think it through some more.
Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
