EDF JET - HobbyKing EPO F-16 - - - - swapped with Red Velocity 64mm fan on 4s lipo. #2

Little flight of a HobbyKing EPO ducted fan jet. F-16. This comes ARTF with a 70mm fan that does not balance well at all.

I "chopped & swapped" the JET before flying. Replaced fan with a RC Lander RED VELOCITY 64mm unit (3900kv). Getting it to fit nice wasn't too hard at all. Cutting 'er open was a bit of a chore though to get to the fan/esc. I replaced the stock esc with a 40amp Turnigy ESC. I replaced the servos with HS65-HB's. I added a custom rudder... although in this flight the rudder isn't working (crashed and repaired, musta lost the servo in process). Berg 6ch Rx, Futaba 7CHP Tx. These flights are with Turnigy 4s 1600mah 30C lipo. I also successfully fly with Mystery 4s 3000mah 30C lipo (cheap on ebay), and she seems to have better speed on the larger lipo, and still floats quite nice just the same.

All up weight with 1600mah is 888grams. AUW with 3000mah is 988grams.

Fan pulls 600watts on the 1600; about 645watts on the 3000. Draws 43-46amps at full bore.

approx 3minute flights... the 3000 battery does not get that much longer in flight, maybe 4 minutes tops.

No dual rate reduction of servo throw, No expo. Loops, rolls all quite nice. Climbout is solid, not unlimited, but still pretty comfortable for nearly a 1000g jet on 64mm fan. This Red Velocity or "Cyclone" fan that people call it is great for $100 shipped. Really PUTS OUT and has great balance right out the box. Because the plane is advertised on HK's site as a 64mm jet this was what i bougth for it. Once i got her open though it was clear the stock fan was a 70mm. Oh well. The exit on the back end of the duct is 55mm, so more perfect for this 64mm fan anyways.

I crashed her once, ripped wing and nose off --- 5min epoxed back on no prob. looks tad rough in a spot or two, still flys like new though. Gotta Love EPO foam!!!

Was wondering about a 5s lipo on this fan; might be a stretch. ;)
