I am still getting vine ripened tomatoes in late January. If I make it another month, I believe that almost all of these plants will be at least 1 year old. I have one plant that has been cloned from suckers for over 3 years.

  • i guess your down south, must have a big electric bill with those heaters, i saw a hoop house similar to yours and they had two plastic walls with a few inches separating them with air, working as insulation, maybe that will keep them from frost damage on tomatos

  • @GORT192 That is exactly the configuration of my greenhouse. I have 2 layers with at least 1-2" space between them. The problem with the damaged leaves came when the plants were actually touching the walls pressing that 1-2" bearier down to nothing and the temps went down to 12-14 degrees outside for several days. All of the plants are recovering nicely since I moved them away from the walls.

I live near Memphis TN so I not exactly down south but we don't endure extended frigid temps here.

  • @GORT192 My power bills are about 5 to 10 dollars per month this year than last winter for this house so it doesn't cost all that much to play in the dirt in the winter!

  • WOW, tomatoes in February! Great gardening. You are really making this hoophouse work for you. Thank you for sharing and I will be watching for your new videos. I bet you are counting down the days until you are in your new home.

  • @dkulikowski Yes we are, however it wont be until sometime in August. Thanks for watching!

  • Nice Job, Im sure the Electric Bill is a bit Bumpy but Im sure a bite out of Riped Tomatoes on Feb. Will Pay its self off

  • @garygardens Its less than a 200$ investment and you can build it in a weekend. Some of the best money that I've ever spent.

  • @MIgardener Thanks Luke, I hope to be more consistant for the rest of the near until about October / November thru Mid to late January of next year. I work at the world Technology Center for FedEx and the Christmas season is brutal on our infrastructure. BTW there is a Santa Claus but he doesn't ride in a Sleigh!!! He flies in big white planes with purple tailfins and rides in Step Vans and 18 wheelers that say FedEx on them! Take care borther!

  • It's so cool to see ripe tomatoes this time of the year. I'm also in zone 7 and I need to get some sort of greenhouse going.

    Regards, Gary
