This very conductor is performing Hansel und Gretel at the Metropolitan opera this Christmas. I am attending! I'm so excited, I so love this beautiful opera, music so sublime.
Not only suggestive of Wagner, the opening bars, and its recurring theme, might also lead one to ponder whether Humperdinck, who composed his opera in 1891-92 might perhaps have been influenced by the Navy Hymn, "Eternal Father, Strong to Save," which original hymn was written by William Whiting of Winchester, England, in 1860. In any case, a fine performance here (with the Albert Hall's trademark acoustics).
@wks1978 I agree! Some notes are just the best to play. There is a cymbal crash in one version of this theme tha is just so fulfilling to play! Bass drum in the Firebird Suite by Stravinsky is also one of those parts.
what instruments r played?

I lost a pregnancy fifteen years ago, and this music always reminds me of her. So inspiring.

We're playing this for a free holiday concert with the Richmond Philharmonic down where the grand illumination occurs in Richmond, VA.

Another good part is "Abends will ich die Stadt rot anmalen gehen."
